In a time when being openly Jewish can feel uncertain, even dangerous, the choice to wear a Magen David or any visible sign of faith becomes an act of quiet bravery.
I took the photo that inspired this painting while walking through Jerusalem. I felt such joy seeing this Hasidic man - unmistakably Jewish - walking freely, speaking on his phone, completely at ease. It moved me deeply.
This painting reminds me that I too can walk the streets unapologetically Jewish. And, of course, I couldn’t resist painting the winding beauty of Jerusalem itself.
